What is

Spiritual Crisis?

Spiritual Crisis: A self-identified spiritual or "anomalous" experience that affects the identity of the individual and causes concern or distress for the person who experiences it, or for those around them.

Also known as a: spiritual emergency, Spiritually Transformative Experience (STE), psycho-spiritual crisis, spiritual awakening, kundalini awakening, Dark Night of the Soul, or simply as a transformative crisis.

Spiritual crisis can be accompanied by various forms of mental, emotional, and physical discomfort or distress. These may include seeing visions, hearing voices, or feeling energies, which may cause anxiety or become overwhelming.

These experiences can sometimes be mistakenly diagnosed as mental health issues, such as psychosis, schizophrenia, or Bi-Polar Disorder.

"I define a spiritual crisis as: any self-identified spiritual or anomalous experience that affects the identity of the individual and causes concern or distress for the person who experiences it, or for those around them."
