Training & Education.
I offer a selection of talks, workshops, and courses to help raise awareness of spiritual crisis. These are aimed at therapists, clinicians, experiencers of spiritual crisis, and their carers.
Therapists, be they psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, or CAM practitioners, may not have come across spiritual crisis before or be equipped to support someone experiencing it. Being unaware of spiritual crisis can result in unnecessary harm due to inappropriate clinical responses. There is little research into effective therapeutic interventions for spiritual crisis and, even where there is, this does not always translate into evidence-based practise. Spiritual crisis is relevant to a culturally sensitive approach that values spirituality and its importance for mental health and wellbeing. This includes religious and non-religious forms of spirituality and also the growing number of people who identify as spiritual but not religious. Even for therapists who are open to spiritual issues, there is a lack of professional recognition in this specialism. I provide evidence-based education and training about spiritual crisis for therapists. This training is based on many years’ experience of providing one-to-one support, peer-support group facilitation, and academic research, with an emphasis on translating research into applied practise. I also provide access and signposting to further resources and an attendance certificate that you can use for CPD and to evidence your awareness and support for people affected by spiritual crisis. Please note: these courses are not accredited and do not provide a license to practise as a therapist. Please check CPD requirements with your professional membership body. If you are interested in any of these courses, please contact me to register your interest. I will schedule talks and workshops when enough people have registered their interest. |
