Training & Education.

I offer a selection of talks, workshops, and courses to help raise awareness of spiritual crisis. These are aimed at therapists, clinicians, experiencers of spiritual crisis, and their carers.

Therapists, be they psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, or CAM practitioners, may not have come across spiritual crisis before or be equipped to support someone experiencing it. Being unaware of spiritual crisis can result in unnecessary harm due to inappropriate clinical responses. There is little research into effective therapeutic interventions for spiritual crisis and, even where there is, this does not always translate into evidence-based practise. Spiritual crisis is relevant to a culturally sensitive approach that values spirituality and its importance for mental health and wellbeing. This includes religious and non-religious forms of spirituality and also the growing number of people who identify as spiritual but not religious. Even for therapists who are open to spiritual issues, there is a lack of professional recognition in this specialism.

I provide evidence-based education and training about spiritual crisis for therapists. This training is based on many years’ experience of providing one-to-one support, peer-support group facilitation, and academic research, with an emphasis on translating research into applied practise. I also provide access and signposting to further resources and an attendance certificate that you can use for CPD and to evidence your awareness and support for people affected by spiritual crisis.

Please note: these courses are not accredited and do not provide a license to practise as a therapist. Please check CPD requirements with your professional membership body.

If you are interested in any of these courses, please contact me to register your interest. I will schedule talks and workshops when enough people have registered their interest.
The video recording provides an overview of my PhD research into spiritual crisis / emergency. It was presented at the annual conference of the Alister Hardy Trust in 2025. The AHT supports the work of the Religious Experience Research Centre (RERC) founded by Sir Alister Hardy FRS, an Oxford biologist, in 1969.
You can attend any of the series of talks and webinars below individually or register for them all. Whilst they are primarily aimed at clinicians or therapists for CPD and training purposes, they may also be of interest to experiencers, carers, or researchers. All talks are based on my own PhD research, peer-support experience, and other academic research, with the aim of informing evidence-based practice in the wider context of spirituality and mental health.
